Weekend Report No. 16
Posted by Nobody on 19 January 2017
Cannock 6th Team and Cannock Badgers both had their games cancelled due to the weather this weekend.
Cannock 5ths v Old Wulfs 4ths
The game nearly didn't go ahead, until the Ladies 3rds showed that modern women still know how to use a broom, sweeping the pitch clear of snow in the vain hope of getting their own game to go ahead. Despite a late start and the inclement weather the 5ths soon warmed to their task and set about dismantling the visitors. Despite their overwhelming superiority and repeated visits to the D, all Cannock has to show for their efforts at half time was a well taken goal from James Roberts.
Stern words at half time saw greater efforts from the home side. Another goal from Robbo, this time from a short corner saw the lead doubled before Old Wulfs scored from a short corner which deflected off the keeper's pad and past the non-existent postman.
Cannock decided it was time to finish the game once and for all and did so through further goals from Robbo, 2 well taken strikes from Paulio Martin on and a wonder reverse stick finish from Lewis Michael, giving a satisfying final score of 6-1.
Next week's game sees a long trip to Bridgnorth before a team meal at Chiquito to celebrate Paul Martin's birthday.
MoM - Robbo
DoD - Jonny Machin ( for not turning up)
Cannock (Maroon) vs Cannock (White)
Drew 5-5
With Cannock 2s, 3s and 4s all out of league action due to the Students of Nottingham extending their winter break an interclub goal feast was called for. The game didn't disappoint, Team White stormed into a 3-0 lead and extended this to 5-2 and with White Team keeper Tony Blower pulling off several saves it looked like a winner had been found. Nevertheless Team Maroon kept fighting got themselves back into the game which was eventually drawn 5-5.
Our thanks goes to Harry & Lewis Michael for umpiring the event.
DoD goes to Lewis Round for criticising a young umpire.
MoM goes to Tony Blower and John Chappell for allowing balls to be hit at them in the freezing cold.
