Cannock M5s 0 - 0 Bridgnorth
Cannock 5ths hosted high fliers Bridgnorth on a bright but Arctic afternoon at Chase Park. Unavailability higher up the club saw the #properhockeyplayers dispersed and the 5ths fielding 4 debutantes from the Badgers and a parent who was new to the game altogether. The omens were inauspicious.
Cannock's defence were subjected to sustained pressure during the first half, but coped admirably and despite frequent chances and several short corners, held firm. As the half drew to a close, Cannock's new players grew in confidence and began to exert greater influence, leading to a number of chances which Jonny Machin would have converted, had he not found a keeper in great form. Half time score 0-0.
Cannock started the second half as they finished the first. Chances were created but none found their way into the Bridgnorth goal. The visitors continued to mount more attacks but were kept at bay by the dominant Cannock defence, who marshalled their opponents admirably. Cameron Horn was in imperious form at centre back, frequently turning defence into attack, turning over the opposition with well timed interceptions and strong tackles. The Cannock midfield duo of Gary Jones and Lee Marsh worked tirelessly and linked well with others to create a number of good chances,  which Bridgnorth kept out. Despite the best efforts of both sides, neither was able to break the deadlock, so the score finished as it had started, at 0-0.
An unexpected but well earned point, thanks to the newcomers Pete and Alex Westwood, Lewis Asling, Alex Westwood and Connor Lloyd Smith stepping up to the plate when the club needed them.
Man of the Match went to Cameron Horn for his confident performance in the heart of the defence.

Cannock L2s 1 - 6 Leek
Cannock ladies 2’s faced a difficult fixture away at second in the league leek. Cannock started out with some good passages of play making leek work to regain possession. After 20 minutes leek  took the lead with a short range shot high into the net and quickly doubled the tally 5 minutes later making the half time score 2-0 to leek.
After the break cannock troubled the leek defence and gained a couple of short corners narrowly placing shots wide. Leek combated strongly putting 3 past cannock in the next 20’minutes, but cannock battled on with some lovely passages of play eventually finding the net with a counter attack brilliantly finished by Lucy gooderham. Leek sloted one more home at the end of the game making the final score 6-1 to the home team.
Our man of the match was shared by Emma Smith and Victoria Dennison.
Next week we face undefeated top of the league Nottingham University
