Cannock were left devastated when swansea had a quick break in the final seconds of the game and despite Cannock’s efforts to break down play they scored to win 1-0

Cannock L2s 3 – 3 Sutton Coldfield
Cannock ladies 2’s faces a mid table clash against Sutton Coldfield 2’s. Earlier in the season Cannock held Sutton to a draw, can Cannock get the full 3 points this time round. Cannock started out in the driving seat with plenty of forward momentum and many shots on the Sutton goal and after 15 minutes cannock slowed one away in open play with a goal from Lou Humphrey. The rest of the half was end to end play and Sutton equalised Just on the stroke of half time.
The second half started with Sutton scoring early piling the pressure on Cannock to score again to keep themselves in the running for the win. Cannocks second came in the from a great short corner finish by Rachel Drayton Chana. With another 20 minutes left to play both teams were going all out to get the winner! 10 minutes from time Sutton scored their third from a well worked short corner routine. The last 10 minutes consisted of many chances from both sides but a goal saved on the line by a Sutton players foot gave Cannock a final chance to steal a point, Sophie Tibbets slotted the penalty corner Home making the final score 3-3.

Player of the match was given to Laura Swinscoe in central defence.

Cannock L4s 0 – 1 Aldrige & Walsall

Cannock Ladies 4s travelled to Aston University pitches to play Aldridge and Walsall ladies 1s. Despite having all the possession and playing some lovely passing movements Cannock were unable to find the crucial goal throughout the game. Aldridge and Walsall played a very defensive game with the majority of the game being played in their 23. Unfortunately in the final minutes as Cannock continued to push for the winning goal Aldridge and Walsall got a breakaway goal completely against the run of play, to the extent that the team awaiting to come onto the pitch said I cannot believe you lost that! MOM Hettie,

Cannock L5s 0 – 5 Dudley
Cannock Ladies 5ths played a rather aggressive but skilful game against Dudley. They maintained a good level of teamwork and were able to have high morale despite the end result. The team should not feel disheartened, as it was a defensive game in which was difficult to play. Dudley unfortunately had a couple of very skillful players which allowed them to keep the flow of play to continue, however Cannock did make excellent tackles in retrieving the ball and taking it to the attacking area, unfortunately a goal could not be scored despite the many shots. Cannock’s player of the match went to Beccy Chapman. Their player of the match went to Lucy Norwood.

Cannock M3s 2 – 2 Loughborough Students
Cannock Mens 3s entertained the Students of Loughborough Uni on a surprisingly sunny afternoon at Chase Park. A much changed Cannock 3s saw a couple of new faces making their 3rd team season debut, with Cannock Veteran Greg Bloomer and new to hockey Matt Edwards. The Cannock side we’re going to have put on a performance of their life to pull a result from the Students who sat second in the table.
As suspected, the game ran straight into a defensive Cannock set up trying to fend off any Loughborough attacks, which there were a lot of. The defence stood firm but Cannock struggled to maintain any real possession outside their own twenty five. This resulted in Loughborough continuing the barrage of attacks.
The partnership of Spencer Ley and Captain Tom Widdowson at Full Backs flanked my Nathan Lofthouse and Andrew Hodgetts worked hard to maintain the score at 0-0. With James Griffiths working tirelessly to create some outlets in the midfield. But soon the opening for the opposition came, an overload in the D found the ball boucing around whilst the Students reacted first. 0-1.
Cannock lifted their heads and pressed on, the game continued in the same fashion, whilst Veteran forwards Bloomer and Dave Wigg did their best to create some chances, it was a difficult task with pressure around them. Once again Loughborough pressed hard and exploited the cracks in the Cannock defence. A probing run towards the head of the D allowed Loughborough to get a shot away, the rebound allowed the Students another attempt at goal, which ended up in the back of the goal. 0-2. Throughout the first half goalkeeper Ollie Balcombe kept the score to a minimum with a number of excellent saves.
Cannock rallied thier troops and hoped to exploit the naive Loughborough defence. The second half started and Cannock found a new lease of life and started to progress some attacks through the hard work of midfield trio Lewis Micheal, Paul Martin and James Griffiths. An rare attack into the Loughborough D allowed Wiggy to get a shot away only for the keeper to scramble it away, but not fare enough as Bloomer pounced onto the lose ball and slotted it under the keeper. 1-2.
This threw Cannock a life line but were wary of allowing Loughborough any future chances, the opposition pressed to widen the gap but with Balcombe cover all angles of the goal and a number of penalty corner saves put in a Man of the Match performance.
One more opportunity came for Cannock as James Griffiths picked a loose ball on the half way line and weaved his way towards the opposition goal, after being fouled just outside their D, his quick restart allowed him to carry the ball just inside the D and rifled home a shot into the bottom corner, out of no where Cannock had levelled the score 2-2.
With 10 mins remaining Cannock stood firm and through the everything they had behind the ball, the forward line of Wigg, Bloomer and Edwards became makeshift defenders.
Loughborough tried to retake the lead but nothing could penetrate the Cannock defence. Two mins left and a ball was crashed in from outside the Cannock D, a deflection heading toward the bottom corner, the Loughborough player already looking to celebrate but Balcombe once again covered every inch of he goal and got his toe to it to deflect the ball wide. The last chance of the game came for Loughborough to make an upset, another crashed ball deflected in but for it only to fly high over the cross bar.
10 seconds remained and Captain Widdowson had the ball from a sixteen yard hit, he crashed it as far away as possible beyond the Students, the final whistle blew. 2-2.
One of the games of the season for Cannock 3s to take a point from a top side who were never able to break the moral and strength of united Cannock side. Much praise to everyone who turned out for Cannock and especially to those who had not played this level of hockey before
