Media opportunity for arrival of Pakistan Hockey Team
Posted by Rob Davies on 11 July 2012
Hi everyone, as you know there has been significant press interest in the decision of the Pakistan Hockey Team to base themselves in Cannock from both national and local media which is fantastic news. So far we have had interest from Midlands Today, Central News and ITN as well as local and regional newspapers.
I am proposing, with everyone’s agreement to invite interested media parties to a media opportunity at Cannock Hockey Club on Friday 13 July from approximately 10am – 12.00am on Friday morning (although we may need to be flexible on these times). The opportunity would allow the filming of the team warming up/training and interviews/photographs with key spokes people.
We would need a spokesperson from the team, and a member of Cannock Hockey Club to be available to be interviewed. Staffordshire County Councillor, Pat Corfield would also be available for interview. We would also have pupils (in their hockey gear) from local school St Lukes who will be able to be filmed with members of the Pakistan team, demonstrating the community involvement.
A further media opportunity is on Wednesday 18 July at Cannock Hockey Club between 12.30 and 1.30 when three schools will be doing a 12-mile sponsored walk to Cannock Cricket Club to raise money for charity. They will take part in a mini parade in front of the team, before handing over a cheque for a Pakistan charity. I will also be inviting the local media to this event.
Finally another media opportunity we have been asked about is the filming of the team as they arrive at Heathrow Airport on Thursday afternoon – a suggestion from ITN. This would be part co-ordinated by LOCOG (Local Organising Committee for the Olympic Games) who have a media area at the airport to greet all teams.
