Cannock L2s 2 - 2 Lichfield
Cannock started the game well, knowing they really needed to take some points from the game. Cannock managed to open the scoring, after some great open play and a save from the keeper, Victoria Adams followed up and Cannock went 1-0 up. Lichfield came back out strong, it was a very end to end game. Soon Lichfield managed to eqaulise but Cannock did not drop their heads. Another break away, gave Louise Humpreys a 1 on 1 with the goalkeeper, which she slotted home. Putting Cannock 2-1 up at half time.
Cannock had some great play in the second half, but could not convert this to any goals. Lichfield however managed to pull a goal back. Another much deserved point for Cannock L2s. MOM - Laura Swinscoe
Cannock M3s 2 - 2 Stone M4s
The 3rds were the only men's team to see action, as other games fell victim to flooded pitches. Even with a much changed and somewhat depleted side, due to half term holidays and late withdrawls, Cannock were confident of extending their 100% record, which saw them in 2nd place in the league before the match took place.
As usual, Cannock started well and soon gained the ascendancy over a very experienced Stone side. After 10 mins, Cannock were awarded a penalty corner, which was slipped to Derek Prince, who fired home to give the visitors a well deserved lead. Further pressure from Cannock went unrecorded however, as despite creating numerous chances, they were unable to add to their tally. Stone soaked up the pressure and were content to hit Cannock on the break. A 1v1 with the keeper saw a Stone forwards shot deflected and trickling wide. However he managed to keep his feet and managed to scramble the ball over the line, clearly using the back of his stick. Despite the protests of the Cannock players, the goal was allowed to stand, giving a 1-1 scoreline at the break.
The second half continued in much the same way as the first, with Cannock dominating and Stone absorbing everything that was thrown at them and counter attacking on the break. Stone managed to get a ball through to a forward behind the Cannock defence. When the Cannock keeper slipped whilst closing him down, he took full advantage lifting the ball into the net, to give Stone a 2-1 lead. For the second week running, Cannock would need to come from behind.
Cannock worked hard and showed great character in trying to get something from the game. Despite making more chances however, they just weren't able to convert. With just a couple of minutes left, Cannock forced a final short corner and in almost carbon copy of the first, Derek Prince's shot was well placed and made the score 2-2, whichvwas how the game ended.
So, Cannock lost their 100% record, but still remain unbeaten. Once the day's other results were in however, it emerged that leaders Stafford had lost, which meant Cannock were sitting st the top of the league table. However, more must be made of the numerous goal attempts if Cannock are to get what they deserve from each game.
