Cannock M1s 1-0 Durham Uni M1s

A hard working display from Cannocks men saw them come out on top in a close fought encounter. The Cannock goal coming just before half time, from Callum Swinnerton-Ions.

Cannock M3s 4 - 5 Leek
Cannock Mens 3s travelled away to Leek on a cold and wet Saturday afternoon. Standard weather for Leek.
After being 2 - 0 down after 10 minutes through some calamitous defending and goalkeeping, Cannock pulled one back to make it 2-1. Leek then scored again to make it 3-1, then Cannock scored to make it 3-2, then Leek scored again 4-2.
Half time came and Cannock worked out they could not defend so tried a new tactic to score more than the opposistion. Cannock pegged the oppo back once more to 4-3, thn back to 4-4.
Leek finally decided they wanted all three points, so got a winner 5 minutes before the end.

Cannock M4s 1 – 4 Edgbaston
Cannock men’s 4s travelled to B’ham University to face Edgbaston on a cold and wet afternoon. At the start of the match possession went back and forth, with Edgbaston breaking the deadlock with the first goal from a short corner. Edgbaston applied more pressure and got a foot in the D which gave them a short corner, scoring through a slap shot which brushed the goalie’s right. After the restart Cannock started applying pressure quickly and Raff went maze-running down the left of the D. He chipped it back in the D to Phil Heighway who deflected into the left corner of the goal.
Unfortunately Edgbaston came right back and created a short corner via a foul foot. From the short corner they hit it low to the keeper’s left who couldn't quite reach it and never could the man on the post.
Possession was changing constantly between the two sides. Throughout this time there were great runs from our forwards to latch on to Tim's laser like long balls. Edgebaston continued to apply pressure and one of their midfielders escaped the marking and hit a cross shot from the top of the D, leading to their third goal.
Edgbaston continued to come at Cannock and overloaded the defence. Some good defending kept the lead down. Cannock almost prevented a fourth goal but an Edgbaston player was quickest to the rebound and scored.
At halftime we all knew we could be competitive and wanted to play for the Cannock badge. This resulted in a great performance in the second half where we created short corners and strenghted our defence by extra tight marking. This hard work and dedication allowed us to keep the score in the second half ‪at 0-0, even with no substitutes and a late injury to the tenacious Scott Olsen. The overall score was 4-1 to a very strong Edgbaston.

Cannock L1s 1 – 3 Olton
Cannock ladies 1s hosted Olton who they knew would be no easy feat having taken 3 points at their home ground. Olton started the stronger side taking the game to Cannock and applying constant pressure in their 23. This resulted in a Cannock giving away a penalty stroke for ‘deliberate break down of play in the D’. Olton converted to give them an early 1-0 lead.
Cannock pushed on and started to apply the pressure to the away side but a break away from Olton soon led to Cannock finding themselves 2-0 down. However great movement and quick play saw text book finish by Jodie bedow to see the home side go into half time only 2-1 down
Second half was much more evenly matched and Cannock continued to put Olton under pressure with an awesome deflection from Ruth graham smashing the Olton GK in the face, a save she knew little about.
Despite the pressure Olton showed their years of national league experience to keep Cannock at bay and finish the game as 3-1 winners

Cannock L2s 2 – 1 Edgebaston 1s
Edgebaston were level with us with 9 points, but above us on goal difference, they were sitting 7th in the league. Having drew 3-3 earlier in the season at home, today’s away game was all to play for and a must win match for Cannock.
Cannock started strong, passing the ball well with purpose whilst winning the 50/50 balls. Cannock had much of the early possession but against the run of play the Edgebaston Captain wriggled into the Cannock D and made a good reverse stick shot to put us 1-0 down. Some tough tackling all-round and green cards going to Machin and Zulie meant both teams were here to win and Cannock were not going to be pushed around. Being more composed and productive in the opposition D, a Cannock short corner was drag flicked into the bottom right hand corner by Nic George to pull us level going into the break.
At half time we made some changes in tactics that worked to our advantage. With Zulie, Laura and Hammo solid through the middle and Vicky Dennison being a brick wall down the left hand side, Edgebaston had little in the way of attack. Reduced to the long hit ball that Cannock could take care of easily. Having most of the ball in our half and creating a high number of short corners. Hammo at left slip put a strong shot into the bottom right corner to put Cannock 2-1 up. Lots of attacking play by Cannock, was exploited by Edgebaston as they made a quick break. Again the Edgebaston Captain made a solo run into the box to shoot and was deflected in past the GK to put them level 2 mins from time. Cannock did not give up, with 1 minute to go Hammo surged through their defence and slipped the ball to Shelly who put it under the GK but was saved on the line by a defender. Machin was quick to react and followed up the rebound with a great shot to get a well deserved win and much needed 3 points for Cannock.

Cannock L3s 3 – 3 Bloxwich L1s
Cannock Ladies 3s took on their bitter rivals Bloxwich ladies 1s in a thrilling local derby match. Both teams started strong and drove hard at each other looking to put the pressure on to get the first goal. Bloxwich scored first showing their strength up front. However Cannock soon worked out how they were pressing and started to move the ball around them better, which resulted in an equaliser fairly shortly after this. Cannock then had the upper hand and were showing their dominance in distribution of the ball and findings spaces. This resulted in a further goal for Cannock to put them to 2-1 up at half time.
Bloxwich came out fighting and pushed Cannock hard with lots of jostling in the D and causing Cannock to make some fouls. Bloxwich were able to score taking it to 2-2. It was then game on. With 6 minutes to go bloxwich had a succession of short corners and a good straight strike to the right hand post from their centre forward resulted in another goal for them. Cannock did not let this deter them and threw everything they had back at Bloxwich. In the final throes of the game Cannock won a short corner just as the whistle went. Bloxwich were so keen to defend and there were several false starts which resulted in Bloxwich defenders being sent back out of the D. Finally a fantastic one two allowed Lucy back to score a goal to equalise the score to 3-3. A well fought battle that shows Cannock 3s are a force to be reckoned with in Staffs div 1.

Cannock L4s 3 – 3 Phoenix Blues
Cannock ladies 4s were away to Phoenix Blues, Cannock knew that they would have to be on their A game if they were to get anything out of the game. Phoenix as expected started quickly and soon scored a scrappy goal. Cannock kept their heads and were soon rewarded with a short corner; the initial strike was saved but Emma Thomas followed up and was rewarded with a goal.
Back on even terms Cannock were the stronger of the teams and passed the ball around efficiently to get another short corner, similar to the first the initial strike was saved but the follow up was scored by captain Natalie Garfield.
After half time Cannock continued to play well and pushed for the third goal which eventually came from Man of the match Courtney Hill in the form of another short corner. Cannock feeling like it was job done took their foot of the gas and disappointingly allowed Phoenix to get two scrappy goals in the final 5 minutes for the final score to be 3-3.
Cannock can take heart from their performance as their passing game and their ability to score has improved immensely since the last time they played and lost to Phoenix.

Cannock L5s 1 – 1 Lichfield

Cannock Ladies 5’s played an amazing game today against Lichfield, with the defence maintaining a strong back to prevent Lichfield from scoring, unfortunately in the first half Lichfield defeated our defence scoring a goal. Despite this, Cannock maintained a constant position in allowing Mandy McColl to score, although there were many other chances at goal, unfortunately for Cannock no other shots were scored. Cannock’s player of the match from Lichfield went to Kim McColl and Cannock’s player went to Mandy McColl.
