Cannock Reach National Final
On Saturday Cannock went down fighting in their latest NOW Pensions National League fixture. Desperately needing points to edge clear of the relegation play-off spot, Cannock took on Surbiton, who have already secured their 4th place in the league. By half time the Chase Park side had a commanding 4-1 lead with goals from Dave Beckett, Peter Jackson, Navraj Degun, Harry Jawanda. However, a second half of disarray, dispossession and disappointment resulted in Surbiton adding five goals to their tally and sending Cannock to a 6-4 defeat, with four goals from Matt Daly.
It wasn’t all bad for Cannock this weekend though - they beat Sevenoaks 4-1 to book their spot in Hockey’s premier cup competition the NOW: Pensions Men’s Cup final. Two goals came in each half with strikes from Pete Jackson (2), Will Fleet and Nick Bandurak. Cannock will face NOW: Pensions Conference North champions Brooklands Manchester University in the final after they beat Old Loughtonians 5-4 in the other semifinal.
In the Midlands Leagues Cannock had another successful weekend. The seconds won 4-0 away to Northampton Saints with goals from Chris Beck, Louie Morris, Chris Darnley and Will Fleet. The thirds had a convincing 8-0 win at Belper. The fourths and fifths, playing in the same league, faced each other for the final time. Honors went to the fourths with a 7-0 win. The sixths continued their move up the league with a 5-0 win over Sutton Coldfield and the sevenths won 3-1 against Edgbaston, maintaining their second placed spot.
