Early Success in Summer Leagues

Cannock's three Summer League Teams were in action this week. There was mixed success with two wins and a loss. First to take the field was the'mostly' young Cannock side. They travelled well into big sheep country to take on Whitchurch. They had an impressive flock of 17 players all wanting to get a piece of Cannock. Despite some even play in the first half, two well placed drag flicks put Whitchurch two goals to the good at half time. The half time team talk enabled a change in tactics and the Cannock lads came out like a pack of sheep dogs. They soon reduced the deficit with a goal from Callum Swinnerton-Ions. The scores were leveled when Cameron Beswick confidently dispatched a penalty stroke. After continued pressure Joe Minter scored the third and Chris Darnley sealed the win from a penalty corner. Cannock produced a fine team performance and showed a lot of character to come back from two down. The only down side was the ankle injury to Louie Morris that will leave him sidelined for 4-6 weeks. On Thursday evening Chase Park hosted two games. First off was the Chase Park side who took on Wednesbury. Chase Park took an early lead but the Wednesbury side started to play a more controlled game and found the back of the net three times. The next game saw many of the Cannock elite players and Hodgy take to the field. Things didn't go to plan at first and the Hatherton side went 4 -2 down to a strong Kalsa side. However, by the end of the game Hatherton had turned things around and bagged a 5-4 win.
