Cannock L1s 4 – 1 Lichfield L1s

Cannock 1s welcomed old rivals Lichfield to chase park for their first home game of the season. Lichfield came out the blocks with fire in their belly and had a good chance to go 1-0 up within minutes of the pushback but Cannock kept it out the net.
Cannock sprung into life and took charge of the game scoring 3 goals in very quick succession. Lichfield hit back with a well taken 1v1 but Cannock finished the game off with a 4th goal in the second half

Goal Scorers - R Graham 2, J Bedow 1 and E Hudson
Mom - J Bedow

Cannock L2s 2 – 1 Edbaston L1s

Cannock 2’s faces Edgbaston 1’s away from home in their second game of the season. The Cannock girls ran onto the hockey pitch determined to make an improvement on last weeks final minute draw against Matlock. Cannock started off strong, pressing the ball and creating many chances but were unable to make all the shots on target count. Edgbaston were very quick on the break and fantastic defending by Cannocks back 4 kept the Home team at bay, the score 0-0 at half time.
Cannock came out energized and pacey, it wasn’t long before Sarah Drayton Chana slotted Home a left slip strike on a short corner. Edgbaston countered very quickly 10 minutes later and cancelled out Cannocks lead. Three minutes from time and with Edgbaston under lots of pressure a quick ball out of defense managed to find Sarah Drayton Chana for her second of the game. Cannock kept going with some great team play down the left hand side to prevent Edgbaston from getting another touch of the ball. Final score 2-1 win for Cannock.

Man of the match was Sarah Drayton Chana.

Cannock L3s 2 – 1 Lichfield L3s

Cannock ladies 3s played Lichfield ladies 3s at home with a 12pm pushback. First half saw lots of pressure from Cannock and some great shots on goal and short corner routines. Unfortunately the Lichfield keeper defended the shots well and Cannock struggled to hit the corners and get deflections. Leading to a 0-0 score at half time.
The second half saw a determined Cannock team continue to maintain pressure and convert this with a goal from Hannah Inglis who stood in front of the keeper to slip a deflection past her. Lichfield then had a player take a ball to the head and cut just above the eye which stopped play for 10 minutes to ensure she was ok. We wish her a swift recovery. Play resumed with Lichfield determined to score for the player that had gone down and a scrambled Cannock defence unfortunately saw a conceded goal. This couldn’t deter the Cannock team though who had several breaks and converted one of them with Lucy black working the ball well around the keeper. Overall a great 3 points well deserved. Man of the match went to Charlie Thompson who ran her socks off in the centre midfield to celebrate her birthday. Final score 2-1 to Cannock

Cannock M4s 4 v 2 North Staffs M3s

Cannock 4ths welcomed North Stafford 3rds to Chase Park for their first home game of the season. A number of returning players saw a much changed side from the one tgat defeated Old Wulfs in last week's opening day victory. The rain abated before pushback allowing perfect conditions for both sides to perform. Cannock, as usual, started brightly but the visitors hit Cannock on the break on several occasions, keeping the defence and goalkeeper busy.
Finally, the deadlock was broken, when Jonny Machin unleashed one of his trademark reverse stick strikes, giving the keeper no chance. Soon after, a brilliant passing move which began in the Cannock D was finished by Machin with a second reverse thatvwas even better than the first. 2-0 to Cannock.
However, Cannock struggled to maintain their rhythm and consistency. As result, North Stafford were able to capitalise on defensive errors and pull 2 goals back. Although Cannock were the dominant side, they found themselves 2 -2 at the break.
With instructions to look after the ball better, Cannock soon began to dominate the game again. Despite strong pressure from North Staffs, the home side asserted their influence through Callum McGarrie who fired home in a goalmouth melee and then scored a second with a wonderful piece of individual skill and a fearsome strike. 4-2 to Cannock was too much for North Staffs to contend with and despite spirited work by the visitors, they were unable to affect the scoreline.

4-2 is how it ended. There were strong performances all round but Lee Hames earned the Man of the Match award for his industrious work.

Cannock visit top of the table Stone next week with both sides looking to keep their 100% starts to the season intact

Cannock M5s 1 – 2 Lichfield

Cannock 5ths welcome rivals Lichfield to chase park, before the game the skipper reminded team about what this game means, the game started with a Lichfield Push back, it was end to end stuff with both sides having chances , the back 3 Cattell,Michael , A.Westwood as well as keeper Chewy were playing well in defence making sure their snuffed out any Lichfield chances , however after a while the pressure told when Lichfield made a break through the midfield and scored to make it 1-0 this was the halftime score. At halftime the captain gave a speech about still fighting and to still have the belief, before some wise words were spoken from Chewy, Raff and Dave to help motivate the team.
2nd half started with Cannock trailing skipper wanted to make impression on work rate to set the example to the youngest, he started with a good break going all way up to top right hand of the pitch, other more experience players of Don and raff started making some nice breaks and Passes too, you could see this was starting to lift Cannock and youngest as well with Jake and Lewis making some good breaks, Cannock now were on front foot putting pressure on, Skipper heard the cry from Cannock supporters on the side line for someone to get on keeper so he did to make sure keeper couldn't see everything, this helped to free space up for Nathaniel who had a lovely ball planted to him, with out stretch stick he got the touch to score the goal and bring it level, you could see what this meant to the young lad and the captain, However moments later disaster struck as Cannock were under pressure , Captain tried to run the ball out of the D, rather than playing simple hockey perhaps a captain trying a bit too hard who is determined to learn his lesson from it , resulting in losing the ball, and the keeper getting chipped, who did his best to get something to it ,Lichfield player scoring his double, Cannock now trailing 2-1 they know they had keep battling and never gave up, in a very silmiar move to Cannock goal Nat father Greg made a break to the post who was inches away from getting there to score, Cannock showing good fight and youngest N.Yerbury, L.asling, M.Edwards,J.Griffiths , A.Westwood, S.cattell and players new to hockey of P.Westwood G.Yerbury , really giving everything they had whilst listening to more Experienced players of Chewy, Michael, Clark and Raff who set a good example to the players around them about where to be right until the final whistle, however it was not to be Cannock day. In game where it always hard to take a loss, Every player did well , Can take some Positives out of the game, but can also take away something they can work on. Overall this was game played in good spirit by sides, with a game away to Market Drayton next weekend , both sides will be looking to get off the mark in round 3.

Nathaniel Yerbury - Voted Man of match for 2nd week running, mainly for excellent work rate and scoring our first goal of the season
