Cannock won both their games in the opening day of the Maxinutrition Hockey 5s Championship Men's Division One in Bristol. Their opening game was against fellow Midlands side Bourneville. Cannock made a cagey start and ended the half honours even at 2-2 with Andy Appleton and Dave Beckett getting on the score sheet . The second half started with both sides trading a further goal, Ben Edge finding the net. Cannock then began to dominate and three further goals from Dave Beckett, Chris Darnley and Pete Jackson sealed the victory. Cannock's second game was against Old Loughtonians, a team relegated from the Premier Division last season. Again the first half was a fairly even affair ending 2-2 (goals from Dave Beckett). Both sides scored a third goal early in the half, but Cannock finished the stronger with a further goal from Beckett and a final goal from Jackson. Cannock now sit in 3rd place on 6 points with Surbitan in 2nd by one goal difference on the same points and Team Bath on top also with 6 points and with a much superior goal difference. However, Bath have played the two teams sitting at the foot of the table, both of which Cannock have still to play. Sunday sees Cannock make an early start against Brooklands and then their final game later in the day against fellow Premier League club Hampstead & Westminster.
