U14s in Indoor Action
U14 Boys Indoor Tournament - Sunday 11th December 2011
Team: James Bandurak (GK) (C), George Archer, Angus Bulpitt, Jamie Greenwood, Jordan Joiner, Alex Kingston, Lloyd Manley, Danny Swinnerton-Ions
Historically there is very little opportunity for juniors to play indoor hockey until they reach U16, therefore, when Belper suggested an Invitational Tournament solely for U14s it was gladly accepted.
Prior to todays Tournament held at Repton, the indoor squad had only attended two one hour training sessions, but in spite of this, they performed above all expectations.
The Tournament was hosted by Belper who fielded two teams (Belper Reds and Belper Blues), together with Lichfield and Cannock in a round robin format to decide semi-final pairings. Cannock succeeded in winning all three group matches and were drawn to play Belper Blues in their semi-final. This match proved to be a blip in an otherwise perfect day and in spite of numerous short corners, Cannock fell behind late in the game and were only saved from defeat in normal time when they converted a short corner with the last play of the match. The outcome was decided on penalty flicks and unfortunately Cannock failed to convert any of their three and with Belper converting one they went through to the final.
The squad were inevitably deflated following this game, however, they rallied to win the third/fourth play off against Belper Reds 2-0.
For a squad of players with only two hours playing experience this was a magnificent performance, to have not lost any of their games in normal time, winning four and drawing one.
The goal scorers on the day for Cannock were Alex Kingston scoring six, Angus Bulpitt netting three and Jordan Joiner scoring once, with the results as follows:-
Cannock 1 Belper Blue 0
Cannock 3 Belper Red 2
Cannock 3 Lichfield 2
Cannock 1 Belper Blue 1*P
Cannock 2 Belper Red 0

Team Manager Jayne Joiner and Coach Aza Wilkes would like to give a huge thanks to the parents who got the players to Repton for 08:30 on a Sunday morning, they are sure that the great atmosphere and excitement the Tournament generated has wet theirs and the players appetites for Indoor Hockey.
