Cannock 7th XI Match Report

Cannock 7th XI  1 - 2   Shrewsbury 4th XI

Scorer(s): J Edwards

Shrewsbury, the toughest team Cannock have played this year brought out the best in the 7ths. Under considerable pressure in the first half and facing a string of penalty corners, the 7ths felt relieved to be only one down at half time. It was proving difficult for the team to gel with so many new faces, but there was no lack of effort.

The second half improved significantly, although an early second goal could have easily turned the game into a rout. With better organisation across the back, and the midfield defending higher up the pitch, the Shrewsbury attacks were nullified, and after a sustained period of pressure, the irrepressible John Edwards stroked in Cannock's first of the day.

Unfortunately, despite camping in the Shrewsbury '25 for most of the rest of the half, shots were in short supply.

The result, although disappointing, was capped by the best display of campaign so far, with the badgers that were drafted in at the last minute, showing their class.
