Cannock 5th XI Match Report

Cannock 5th XI   2 - 4   Barford Tigers 4th XI

Scorer(s): R Jones, R Moscatiello

A rusty Cannock side faced a clinical Barford team knowing that winning would put them back in contention for promotion this season. Despite each side starting brightly it was Barford who got themselves in the lead only for a Richard Jones wonder goal to put Cannock back in the game.

Unfortunately, some poor defending towards the end of the half saw Barford get themselves back in the lead.

The second half saw Cannock try to push on but in the process left themselves short at the back and each team grabbed a goal, Cannock's from captain Raff Moscatiello, with the score at 3-2 Barford scored a clinical 4th and the game was over. This now means that Cannock must beat the teams around them to have a chance of promotion.

Cannock 5th XI   4 - 1   Bridgnorth 4th XI

Scorer(s): A Hodgetts 2, R Jones, R Moscatiello

A rejuvenated Cannock team found themselves playing a second game in one weekend to a young and fit Bridgnorth team on a sunny afternoon.

Despite their obvious skill Bridgnorth had they were unable to get near a Cannock team which were starting to play their best hockey of 2008 so far.

They soon found themselves 2-0 ahead with two excellent short corner strikes from the superb Richard Jones and afterwards a clinical strike from Andy Hodgetts saw the half time score look very comfortable for Cannock at 3-0.

It was no surprise that Cannock eased off, but they still pressured Bridgnorth throughout who were very sporting during a game which they never looked like winning, another Andy Hodgetts strike and a rare goal from Raff Moscatiello saw Cannock up to five but it was Bridgnorth who ended things in the last minute with a consolation goal.

If Cannock continue to show the guile they showed today they can still test their promotion contenders.
