Cannock 5th XI Match Report

Cannock 5th XI   5 - 2   North Stafford 4th XI

Scorer(s): M Sandhar 2, T Butler, S Hyde, C Salmon

A young(ish) Cannock team entertained an experienced North Staffs side who sat top the table before the game, and fought out a fast and exiting game.

Cannock started well but also absorbed some early pressure from North Staffs before taking the lead with a great strike from Sandhar, in his first game since sustaining an ankle injury at the end of last season. Both teams had further chances in the half but squandered them.

Despite starting reasonably well Cannock conceded a goal which brought the two sides level. This sprung Cannock into action and they responded with two great short corners which resulted in Steve Hyde and Tim Butler both scoring their first goals of the season.

Some slack defending by Cannock however, brought North Staffs back into the game and they made it 3-2, but Cannock were not to be denied with a superb finish from the excellent Sandhar and youngster Salmon who capped off his own excellent performance with a self worked goal.

The game finished 5-2 which Cannock fully deserved and in the process closed the gap at the top of the table.
