Cannock 4th XI 3 – 1 Sutton Coldfield 4th XI 27th March 2010 Scorer(s): Chris Bolt (3) Cannock 4th's final game of the 2009/10 season brought Sutton Coldfield to the Morris Ground in a match that had looked crucial only 3 weeks ago, however, due to results and Cannock's good form meant very little to the hosts who had seen their season finish tremendously with five straight victories and only four defeats in the last 15 games. The game had a real 'end of season' feel about it, as Sutton found out on their way to the game that due to another fixture only a miracle 28-0 result would save their plight. Which obviously meant that the game was pointless. With both teams set to just enjoy the game, some nice hockey was put on show as the sun beat down in the late afternoon however, mistakes were far too much of an occurance from both sides in the early stages. Nevertheless, what Cannock have learnt to do recently is win games which are tight and grind results out and the added quality of Chris Bolt up front made an added difference. His hat-rick gave Cannock a 3-1 win but this wasnt without the hosts withstanding a lot of Sutton pressure. So the win gave the 4s another three points which meant an eventual finishing place of 5th in the league which is a tremendous record after losing the opening six games. The new league took a little getting use to by the players with its added pace and quality however, they have all proved their ability in this final league position and eyes are now firmly on next season and whether a push to regain the title that has been lost to Edgbaston 4s this year (Our congratulations to them!) can be made? With new confidence and the added experience, along with the right blend of flare, passion and commitment may well make Cannock 4th XI a new force to be feared come Spetember. |
