Cannock 4th XI   2 - 1   Sutton Coldfield 4th XI

Scorer(s): D Bradbury, R Jones

Cannock needed to avenge their defeat at Nottingham Uni last week, with a convincing win at home to Sutton Coldfield.

However this was not to be the case as Sutton's spoiling tactics prevented Cannock from achieving any useful possession during the game. That said, Cannock made life difficult for themselves by not employing the discipline and basic hockey skills that were discussed before the game.

Cannock nearly went a goal down in the first ten minutes, when an unchallenged Sutton attack culminated in a shot that was disallowed for a foot in the D. The visitors rectified that when, in probably their second attack of the game, they were allowed to get off a weak shot that was deflected under the goal-keepers waiting foot.

Cannock regained some composure but could not maintain possession of the ball long enough to cause any problems. At 1-0 down at half time it was looking desperate for the 4ths.

A slight formation change hoped to bring some stability to the side with Daniels and Fleet providing some stability at the back and it appeared to have worked as Cannock clawed a goal back from David Bradbury.

Sutton never gave up and as Cannock pushed forward for the winner, they countered numerous times, often having four players against two, and just lacked the quality in the D to finish.

Richard Jones sealed the victory in the dying minutes, but Cannock need to improve rapidly to compete for the league.
