Cannock 3rd XI 10 - 2 Birmingham University 3rd XI Scorer(s): J Roberts 3, C Mayer 2, N Bandurak 2, S Mee, E Martin, P Edwards, Birmingham University took first blood after poor defending from Cannock allowed the Birmingham player to round A. Bandurak in a one on one situation and slot the ball home. Up until this point Cannock had been playing positively and created a number of chances but were unable to convert. It took until the twelfth minute for Cannock to get back on level terms when Roberts scored deflecting the ball into the goal. This was followed up two minutes later with a nice run by C. Mayer into the D, followed by a shot low into the goal for Cannock's second. The score stayed this way for much of the half despite both teams having chances. With four minutes before the half-time whistle remaining an unselfish pass by Dhanda gave Roberts the simple chance to get his second of the afternoon which he duly converted. There was still time for a fourth Cannock goal and a first half hat-trick for Roberts when a long ball from C. Mayer dissected the Birmingham defence, Roberts stopped the ball brilliantly on his reverse side and planted the ball under a diving 'keeper from close range. HT 4-1. Cannock used halftime to discuss the need for better defensive hockey in all areas of the pitch. The second half was still young when C. Mayer scored to make it 5-1 and take the game out of Birmingham's reach. Next was the goal of the game as Cannock's skipper Spencer won the ball in his own D passing the ball deep in his own half, a series of quick one touch passes from Cannock took the ball into their attacking D and N. Bandurak finished off a fantastic move with a reverse stick shot. The ball was in Birmingham's goal that 15 seconds previous had been in their possession in their attacking D. Birmingham scored on 48 minutes to make the score 6-2 but Paul Edwards continued the scoring spree for Cannock with a well struck shot on a short corner. Further goals were scored from young attacking players Sam Mee, Ed Martin and Nick Bandurak. This was a pleasing victory for Cannock with a good blend of youth and experience developing in the side. Next week sees the visit of Beeston HC who will provide a stern test. |
