Cannock 3rd XI  3 - 0   Leek 3rd XI

Scorer(s): J Foster, M Whitehouse, J Bower

Cannock were forced to make a number of changes after losing several players to the 2nd XI. The first half was an evenly matched affair with neither team able to convert possession in the 25 and corners into goals. HT 0-0.

The second half saw Cannock begin to grind down Leek, who were tiring and gradually Cannock had more and more possession but they were still unable to break the deadlock, it was going to take some wizardry.

The turning point in the game came with twenty minutes to go when a ball left the playing arena which Foster duly went to retrieve, after several minutes of searching he reappeared from the bushes without the ball but had changed into his 'The Fonz' cape. From this moment on his playing performance stepped up a gear from solid to exquisite. The opening goal of the game came from his mazy dribble down the right-hand side of the field which took him past three players and into the D, he drew the goalkeeper then played the ball across for Bolt to finish from 5 yards out.

This sparked Bolt into action who capped an industrious display by scoring a second goal that he took well after a nice one-two out on the sideline he carried the ball into the D, beating a couple of defenders before slotting the ball into the corner.

The 3-0 result was achieved when 'The Fonz', who by this point was beating players for fun found himself unmarked on the top left of the D, made space for himself before dispatching the ball into the bottom corner of the goal with a reverse stick shot.

The players who stepped up a team to play this game have impressed and have shown they are capable of developing their hockey to play at this level. Cannock are hoping Foster remembers to pack his cape for the away trip to sunny West Bridgeford next Saturday.
