Cannock 2nd XI 3 - 0 Birmingham University 2nd XI Scorer(s): D Harris 2, C Drewe Cannock faced Birmingham University students in a top of the league clash on a very wet Saturday in December. Within minutes the students showed they were not going to be a pushover, coming in with some very sturdy challenges, however, this only served to fire up the Cannock team who had a number of decent attacking plays culminating with a series of short corners which were well defended by the students. The game was very open with both sides sharing a percentage of possession, half time came around with no score on the board. The second half begun and Cannock started the stronger team, having a few decent attacks and finally a breakthrough with a 60 yard aerial ball from Paul Harris to brother David in the Birmingham D who slotted home from close range. Cannock were two up very shortly after with some more good play from Plunkett down the right leading to a free hit outside the D, James 'rubber arms' Bower took the free hit with a great ball to Dave who cunningly slipped, fell over and still showed he could score from a lying down position. Birmingham had a few decent chances with two balls being missed on the back post; before Cannock sealed victory with a well worked short corner routine. Chris Drewe the thief of the day, stealing a goal from Paul Harris. A deserved victory for a very hard worked game. |
