Cannock 1st XI 6  – 0  Exeter University 1st XI

21st November 2009

Scorer(s): Stuart Pilgrim (2), Nik Bandurak (2), Martin Scanlon, Robert Smith

The goals rained in for the Staffordshire Boys as they stormed to victory in Devon .

This game was played in driving rain from beginning to end and towards the end of the game concerns were that the Umpires might even abandon. Having travelled down the night before, refreshed from a good nights sleep Cannock took the lead after Stuart Pilgrim finished calmly after only one minute. Both teams struggled to come to terms with the weather and the pace of the pitch as the flow of the ball was hindered by the water lying on the surface. Both teams created chances but nothing was converted until Nick Bandurak extended the lead with a well-taken goal only a minute before the break.

At half time Cannock retreated to the changing rooms to dry off and shelter from the storm, meanwhile the students were sat on the backboard of one of the goals as their coach read the riot act. The second half was all one-way traffic as Cannock took control, and their shorter passing game was better suited to the weather conditions. A goal by Martin Scanlon was followed by the goal of the game by the young Nick Bandurak who launched the ball high into the rigging whilst off balance with the ball at waist height. Goals from Robbie Smith and Stuart Pilgrim completed the rout. David Kettle played his first game in goal for the National League team after his return from New Zealand with Wales . This result lifted Cannock to 4 th in the League at the half way stage. A big thanks must go to the Fans and Parents who risked the elements and long journey to watch this valuable victory.
