Slazenger English Hockey League - Premier Division - 01st March 2008 Cannock 1st XI 4 - 2 Canterbury 1st XI Scorer(s): G Andrew 3, A Brogdon, Cannock played host to Canterbury on Sunday looking to build on the previous week's excellent win at Reading. The Kent side are struggling at the wrong end of the table and with them fighting for every point, this was not going to be an easy match. Cannock began well but were reduced to 10 men when Hari Jawanda received a yellow card suspension. Canterbury took the lead after 9 minutes but Cannock responded immediately through Gareth Andrew. However it was Canterbury who took the lead for a second time from a penalty corner 8 minutes later. Despite being behind, Cannock were playing the better hockey and 2 goals in 2 minutes from Gareth Andrew and Andy Brogdon saw them lead 3-2 at the break. The second half saw Cannock firmly in charge with Gareth Andrew completing his hat trick, but they were unable to convert their greater possession into more goals. So Cannock secured a satisfying victory but will be looking for more return on their attacking efforts against 3rd placed East Grinstead down in Sussex on Sunday. |
