Slazenger English Hockey League - Premier Division - 17th February 2008 Cannock 1st XI 1 - 1 Hampstead & Westminster 1st XI Scorer(s): S Pilgrim Cannock were looking to build upon last week's fine win against Beeston when they played host to Hampstead & Westminster but it was the London side, battling to avoid relegation, who started more quickly. Hampstead are probably better than their league position suggests and after claiming a good point away at East Grinstead the previous week, took a very early lead with a goal after just 2 minutes. In fact the London side were all over Cannock for the first 10 minutes, but Cannock withstood the pressure, including defending several penalty corners, and gradually fought their way back and took control of the game. Cannock created several late chances and were unlucky to go into the break 1 down. The 2nd half began with Cannock almost going further behind, however form that point on Cannock dominated the game. The breakthrough came when Matt Taylor squared and Stuart Pilgrim equalised. Cannock continue to create chances but either failed to convert or were foiled by the visitor's 'keeper who made some fine saves. East Grinstead won at Bowden and so Cannock drop to 3rd on goal difference before next Saturday's trip to league leaders Reading. |
