Slazenger English Hockey League - Premier Division - 29th September 2007 Cannock 1st XI 5 - 4 Havant 1st XI Having begun their league campaign with a 4-1 win at Bowden last weekend, Cannock's first home league match saw them edge into a 2-1 half-time lead against Havant thanks to Simon Ramsden and Andy Brodgdon. Cannock extended their lead thanks to another Ramsden penalty corner, a strike from captain Michael Johnson and the second league goal in two games for Cannock new boy, Gareth Andrew. Havant had fought back from 5-2 down at Beeston last week to gain a point and were on the comeback trail once more as 3 goals in 14 minutes meant it was a nervous last 5 minutes for Cannock and their supporters. But the home team held on to claim there second win along with rivals Reading and Surbiton. England Hockey Cup - 2nd Round - 30th September 2007 Cannock 1st XI 6 - 1 Leek 1st XI Cannock played host to fellow Staffordshire club Leek from the National North Division of the English Hockey League in Sunday's 2nd round cup tie and were slow out of the blocks. Simon Ramsden gave them the lead from a 15th minute penalty corner but Leek capitalised when the ball broke free in Cannock's D with an excellent strike making it 1-1. Another Ramsden penalty corner made it 2-1 at the break but Cannock were failing to get out of first gear against a very hard working Leek side. The second half saw things improve for Cannock with a good move finished by new signing Stuart Pilgrim 7 minutes after the break and when Simon Ramsden completed a hat trick of penalty corner 4 minutes later, the score line looked significantly better for the home side. Some fine saves from the visitor's 'keeper helped keep the score down but Leek were beginning to tire and Cannock's other summer signing Paul Blake made it 5-1 with a fine reverse stick strike from the top of the 'D'. Harry Jawanda finally got on the score sheet 3 minutes from time to make the final score 6-1. Cannock will travel to face Nottingham side Beeston in the next round in what appears to be their obligatory annual cup clash. |
