Our U13 team travelled to Highfields hoping to emulate their successes in the County and Regional rounds of the competition.
Traditionally, the schools have dominated the competition and they were again represented in strength. Cannock started well, beating Ben Rhydding 1-0 thanks to a goal from Jack Middleton (Jack eventually got four goals in the day).
Cannock then played the eventual winners Clifton and went down 2-1 to a disputed goal at the death that even the Clifton Coach apologised for. The heavens opened at this point and all the teams soldiered on in the appalling conditions.
Whitgift School were next and the game was a tense affair, Jack Hitchens, in goal for Cannock upended an attacker, but made amends when he saved the stroke. Cannock's hopes of the trophy were finally dashed when they went down 1-0, and then 4-1 against Woodbridge School.
Squad: Chris Darnley, Josh Edwards, Edward Fleet, Jack Hitchens, Jonathan Machin, Jack Middleton, Lewis Round, Matt Sanders, Nathan Shepherd, Zac Sherwani
