Silver Medal in Madrid!

It appeared that the gods were smiling on Cannock as typical British weather greeted the players in Madrid. Whilst the UK was basking in global warming, Madrid was experiencing snow, hail, thunder and lightning - all in one day!

The boys played well right from the start, beating the Italians 6-3 on the Thursday, and demolishing the large Russian team 7-0, before meeting the hosts, Club De Campo on Saturday. In a very tense game that saw pressure exerted by both sides, Cannock sneaked the winner in the dying seconds to put them in the final with Amsterdam.

The work rate was exemplary but the result from Saturday could not be repeated, and the professional Amsterdam side came out eventual winners 6-2.

A silver medal in Europe is still no mean feat and congratulations go to all the squad for their efforts, not just over the weekend but also for the whole season.

Thanks must also go to the band of supporters who went over to Madrid and braved the elements, these people, mostly parents, support the team wherever they go and perhaps deserve more recognition and inclusion into the club - perhaps a supporters club is the way to go?

Thanks must also go to the Canterbury ladies supporters who added a much needed English voice to the support.

Final thanks to Rich (the hockey nut), Rob and James, three guys from Salisbury who came over to support Cannock. Pictures from the event can be found at thehockeynut.co.uk
