Stone Festival a Success! Oct 05
Cannock Under 9s travelled to Stone to take part in their first Staffs Mini-Festival of the season. 2 sides were entered and with nearly half of the players still only 5 weeks into their hockey careers, we were just looking forward to wearing a Cannock shirt and having some fun on a hockey pitch. However, all those involved turned in superb performances, showing how well they had been listening to their coaches! Both teams played games against sides from Wednesbury and Stone, as well as each other. Results aren't important in Mini festivals, but it was nice to see the youngsters playing creative, open hockey and showing a high level of skill, as well as scoring lots of goals! Special mention should go to Danny Swinnerton-Ions, who as the only 'keeper, played for both sides, meaning he only had 15 minutes break all morning. Heavy rain spoiled things at the start, but did nothing to dampen the player's spirits. Luckily, the sun came out in time to dry everyone out before the team photo was taken! The coaches would like to thank all those parents who made the trip and stood in some dreadful conditions to support their children. Our next festival is at Cannock on Sunday 9th November. |
