EuroHockey Club Champions Cup (Men) 2006
HTC Stuttgarter Kickers (GER)

HTC Stuttgarter Kickers was established in 1913 as the Hockey section within the football and athletics club SV Stuttgarter Kickers. In 1914 there were 30 members.

In 1954 the Stuttgart TV tower was built on the hockey pitch, so the department had to move. This was the chance to found the “Hockey and Tennis Club Stuttgart”. In 1958 the HTC received its own grounds from the local council and in 1959 they played their first match on the new pitch. 1960 a second hockey pitch (natural grass) and two tennis courts were built. In 1988 pitch No.1 was turned into artificial turf with floodlight installations, followed by the second artificial grass pitch in 2001. In 2006 the membership exceed 800 including 350 children.

Since 1975 the mens first team has played – with some interruptions – in the 1st German division. In the middle of the seventies HTC reached the 1976 and 1977 finals for the German championship for the first time. After the dropping into the second division it returned in 1980. HTC developed a team from the own youth programme. At it’s zenith between 1985 and 1990 the team reached the semi-final of the German championship five times and the final once, which it lost against the team which controlled the 80’s in Europe - Muelheim.

The season 2004/2005 became the most successful season for HTC. In the last match of the regular season it qualified for the play offs in Duesseldorf.
