| After yesterday’s heartbreak, Cannock had to regroup quickly and make sure of England’s place amongst Europe’s top 8 next season by winning their relegation playoff.
Cannock began in solid style but their opponents were determined to hold out, often pulling all 1 players behind the ball. Barry Middleton broke the deadlock after 12 minutes but Cannock were not at their flowing best and despite a penalty corner from Simon Ramsden, could not force home their advantage.
The second half saw Cannock gradually turn the screw. Martin Jones scored with a superb run and reverse stick strike 6 minutes in and Middleton made it 4 from a penalty corner 7 minutes later. Andy Langlands then struck a superb reverse stick goal of his own before and Cannock were assured of the win.
The last few minutes saw Cannock dominate completely with 5 goals in 7 minutes. Andy Brogdon scored twice with Jones scoring another, Ramsden scoring from the spot and Hari Jawanda completing a 10-0 victory which sees Cannock finish the tournament having scored 30 goals in 4 matches and Martin Jones may well finish as top scorer.
